"Wars' costs, consequences and the responsibility to address them belong to us all.  Holism must include body, mind, heart and spirit in community."
- Ed Tick, "Warriors Return"

Paul Andersen, the director of the nonprofit Huts for Vets, that has done such much good for our veterans and our community, returns to the library for his popular "War Stories," an engaging four-part series run as a group discussion with readings. This year will explore the psychology and mythology of war, and the possibilities for peace.  Readings include great selections from Karl Marlantes, Christopher Hedges, and Capt. Paul Chappell. If you missed the first session, it's not too late to stop by the library to register!  The second session is Thursday, March, 15th, and proceeds all benefit Huts for Vets.

And, if you're inspired by the class, here's a further reading list of some of the most inspired writing to come out of periods of conflict, and some of the best literature on the topic of war, and on peace:
Karl Marlantes is a highly decorated Vietnam veteran, a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and graduate of Yale University.  Here, he references his experiences and gives a literary tour of the psychological and spiritual strugggles of warfare.

“Captain Paul K. Chappell has given us a crucial look at war and peace from the unique perspective of a soldier, and his new ideas show us why world peace is both necessary and possible in the 21st century."         -- Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Sebastian Junger examines the innate need for inclusion and belonging - the tribal instinct, and how we can vastly improve the lives of returning veterans and our communities.
