It’s the year of the Tiger! Have fun decorating your very own lantern to celebrate the new year. The 2022 Chinese New Year begins in February 1, 2022 and lasts for 15 days. This holiday is based on the lunar calendar and this changes each year. During this time, traditional dragon dances symbolize peace, good luck and good harvest in the year ahead.

1. Remove all supplies from the bag and separate the items on a table so you have them ready when you need them.
2. Start by putting your lantern together. You will want to expand the paper lantern. Then use the metal frame to carefully place inside the lantern to hold it in the shape of a ball. The paper is very thin so work slowly and ask for help!
3. Now you will need to decide how to decorate your lantern. You can make patterns, stripes, dots, or pictures of the Tiger! When using paint, you will want to be gentle with your brush during this part so you don’t make a hole in the lantern. Plan ahead so you aren’t painting over one spot more than once.
4.  Let your lantern completely dry before adding embellishments.
5. Once your lantern is dry, use the glue to add pom poms, tie yarn to the bottom of your lantern to add depth and color, and glue on small sequins.
6. Let this dry and then hang it to display all year!

¡Es el año del Tigre! Diviértete decorando tu propio farol para celebrar el año nuevo. El Año Nuevo Chino 2022 comienza el 1 de febrero de 2022 y dura 15 días. Esta fiesta se basa en el calendario lunar y éste cambia cada año. Durante esta época, las danzas tradicionales del dragón simbolizan la paz, la buena suerte y las buenas cosechas en el año que comienza.

1. Saca todos los suministros de la bolsa y separa los artículos en una mesa para tenerlos listos cuando los necesites.
2. Comienza por armar tu farol. Querrás desplegar el farol de papel. A continuación, utiliza el marco metálico para colocarlo con cuidado dentro del farol y mantenerlo en forma de bola. El papel es muy fino, así que trabaja despacio y pide ayuda.
3. Ahora tendrás que decidir cómo decorar tu farol. Puedes hacer patrones, rayas, puntos o dibujos del Tigre. Si utilizas pintura, deberás ser suave con el pincel durante esta parte para no hacer un agujero en el farol. Planifica con antelación para no pintar sobre un punto más de una vez.
4. Deja que el farol se seque por completo antes de añadir los adornos.
5. Una vez que el farol esté seco, utiliza el pegamento para añadir pompones, ata hilo a la parte inferior del farol para añadir profundidad y color, y pega pequeñas lentejuelas.
6. Deja que se seque y cuélgalo para exhibirlo todo el año.
