Music Program Coordinator

​Our long-time beloved Music Coordinator, Charlotte McLain, plans to retire from the Basalt
Regional Library later this year. We will miss Charlotte dearly, and deeply appreciate the music
program at the library which she has created and nurtured. While we can all agree that
Charlotte is irreplaceable, we do need to fill her role at the library. We are looking for a new
Music Coordinator to start where Charlotte leaves off, and continue the legacy of the BRLD
Music Program. Read below for more information:
About you:
  • You are a musician with knowledge of music appreciation and history. Recording experience is a plus.
  • You have ideas for how a public library can creatively meet the needs of its diverse community through music.
  • You have program development and concert management experience, including stage managing, hosting a Green Room, and emceeing events
  • You have experience managing projects and associated budgets
  • You are a self-motivated hard worker with a positive attitude
  • You have excellent customer service skills and a desire to help others
  • You love managing details and coming up with contingency plans for when things inevitably
  • change

About the Music Program:
  • The library hosts an esteemed monthly concert series featuring a variety of musical styles and genres. Performers include local, regional, and national musicians. Additional concerts are presented throughout the year.
  • Through a long-standing partnership with the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), a five-week concert series featuring students and faculty perform at the library during the summer season.
  • A four-week children’s music and story time program, Tunes & Tales, is coordinated with the AMFS and presented during the summer vacation.
  • Educational opportunities are presented through partnerships with fellow presenting organizations throughout the valley (Jazz Aspen/Snowmass and TACAW for example)
  • Local and regional grants help sustain these programs.

About the position:
  • Starting pay $25.00 per hour, 20 hours per week
  • The Coordinator will research, select, and contract professional musicians for the annual concert series, Music at the Library.
  • The Coordinator produces all concerts with an ear to exploring diverse musical themes and genres and to engage musicians of the highest caliber within the confines of the Music Program budget.
  • The Coordinator works with the Marketing Team to create posters and printed programs with program notes.
  • The Coordinator works closely with the Aspen Music Festival and School education and outreach coordinators to present a diversified and excellent summer series featuring up and coming professional musicians.
  • The Coordinator researches and prepares the summer Tunes & Tales program in collaboration with the Youth Services department and Aspen Festival and School partners. This includes selecting appropriate story time materials, coordinating musical accompaniment, transcribing music. 
  • The Coordinator hosts visiting musicians by preparing a Green Room and pre-concert reception in addition to providing assistance in hotel arrangements and other logistics
  • Benefits include three weeks of Personal Time Off per year for sick time and vacation; 6 hours of holiday pay for seven holidays per year; employee health insurance including medical, vision, and dental coverage ($7,272 per year benefit); library match of 2% retirement contribution after one year, 3% after two years, 4% after three years, and 5% for four years and longer.

About the library:
  • The Basalt Library is the living room of its community and is beloved by the people who visit it. The library is known for its music events and its beautiful building. Behind the scenes, a work culture of collaboration, appreciation, and fun make this an amazing place to work.
  • Basalt, named for the basaltic rock formation on Basalt Mountain, began as a railroad town and was incorporated in 1901. Basalt is a Statutory Town in Eagle and Pitkin counties in Colorado. Surrounded by wilderness, Basalt sits at the gate of the Fryingpan Valley along the Gold Medal waters of the Roaring Fork and Fryingpan Rivers in the White River National Forest at an elevation of 6,611 feet.
  • The library sits on the shore of the Roaring Fork River in historic downtown Basalt.
