Summer Reading 2022
Youth in the Roaring Fork Valley are invited to explore, read, and grow all summer long with the Basalt Regional Library. Oceans of Possibilities await with fun programs, reading challenges, and prizes!
For years, libraries across the country have implemented summer reading programs to combat summer learning loss (AKA the “summer slide”), develop a love of reading in children, and help struggling readers catch up before the next school year. But summer reading isn’t just about books! Our theme this year, Oceans of Possibilities, invites you to explore the marine world that encompasses over 70% of our planet. Our reading challenges, activities, and programs have been tailored to readers of all ages.

How it works
STEP 1: Sign Up!
Sign up for summer reading by filling out a registration form at the library or online. |
STEP 2: Read & Learn!
- Babies & Preschoolers: Caregivers are encouraged to read, attend library programs, and complete early literacy activities with their babies and preschoolers all summer long! View our babies’ and preschoolers’ Summer Reading Logs to see what activities count towards summer reading prizes.
- Kids & Teens: See how many books, graphic novels, and audiobooks you can read and listen to this summer! The more you read and listen, the more prizes you can earn! We also have fun programs for kids and teens, some of which require registration.
STEP 3: Submit Summer Reading Logs!
Pick up and submit paper summer reading logs from the library or submit them online. August 5th, 2022 is the last day to submit summer reading logs.

- When you’re ready to pick up your prizes and enter your raffle tickets, bring your completed summer reading logs to the library.
- If you’ve been submitting reading logs online, you will be automatically entered into the grand prize drawing of your choice! When picking up your small prizes, let library staff know you submitted book logs online and we can look up how many you have earned.
- Grand prize winners will be selected on August 6th - we will call you if you win! The last day to pick up small prizes is August 21, 2022. We will contact grand prize winners the week of August 8th.
